Tubes were put in on Monday

Allison got tubes surgically placed in her ears today.

She is taking a nap now after we got home from the tubes being put in. She was under gas mask anesthesia (Sevofluorane with nasal drops of Fentanyl) for literally 4-5 minutes. It was super quick! The hardest part was not being able to feed her in the morning. For a baby that takes a bottle every 6 hours, it was hard not to feed her after midnight. In fact, she usually drinks a bottle before bedtime at about 8pm, then wakes up about 6am for her morning bottle. The tube placement was scheduled for 9am and I just pictured a screaming baby for hours on end. So I set my alarm for midnight and fed her again while she was practically asleep to make the morning go better. She was very good even when the nurse took her away from us to do the procedure.

But it's now 11:30 am, we were home by 10. She's almost back to her normal self. She was really droggy and confused for about 30 minutes and just cried, but once she settled down and took a bottle she was ok. By the time we got home she was acting as if it didn't happen and we sat in the rocking chair and watched Pooh together.

Once they did the myringotomy (punctured her ear drum), they flushed her inner ear out with sterile saline and they said only thick fluid came out...no pus (= no infection). She did just finish a round of antibiotics so it looks like those worked. Bc of that they did not culture her ears. They popped the tubes in to keep her ear drum open and woke her up.

We wonder if she will act any different now. As if maybe she didn't hear as well before, or hated diaper changes bc we lay her down flat and her ears had pressure in them. Who knows. At least we know now that the infections will drain out, and we don't really have to worry about her losing her hearing bc of pressure building from bad infections.

It seems like it didn't hurt at all because she is acting her normal self now!
